The Tennessee Titans‘ brutal start to the season continued in Week 5, as they lost to the Houston Texans by a 26-3 final score.
With this ugly loss, the Titans now have a 0-5 record and are showing no signs of breaking out of their brutal stretch. It has also naturally led to some fans calling for the Titans to bench starting quarterback Cam Ward.
However, following the Titans’ loss to the Texans, head coach Robert Saleh made it clear that Tennessee has no plans to bench Ward despite the team’s struggles.
According to ESPN’s Turron Davenport, Saleh said that Ward is the Titans’ quarterback this year and that he has no desire to bench him.
With this announcement from Saleh, it is clear that he is not ready to give up on Ward. It is understandable, as Ward is a young quarterback and was selected by the Titans with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. With this, it makes sense that Saleh is going to continue to run with Ward as the team’s starting quarterback.
The Titans will be hoping that Ward can improve as the season rolls on. He still has plenty of time to heat up this season for the Titans, so he will be a player to watch incredibly closely from here.
In five games this season for the Titans, Ward has thrown three touchdowns, three interceptions, 896 passing yards, and completed 63.2% of his passes. This was after he threw 15 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and 3,169 passing yards as a rookie last season for the Titans.
It will now be intriguing to see if Ward can bounce back for the Titans after Saleh made it clear that he still has confidence in the young quarterback.
