A viral video captured the hilarious moment an Italian greyhound was sent in to wake his sleeping owner, only to succumb instantly to the warm coziness of the bed.
Dog owner Andrea Liu was sleeping in her New York City home when her husband, Arthur, sent in reinforcements to wake her up. Unfortunately for him, he chose to send in Greg, the couple’s 3-year-old Italian greyhound, to try to coax her out of bed, and the plan completely backfired.
The footage, which was shared on the dog’s dedicated social-media accounts (@gregtheig on TikTok and Instagram), shows the moment Greg wandered over to the bed and, rather than waking his owner, he chose to snuggle up beside her instead. This shouldn’t have come as a total surprise, however; Liu told Newsweek that Greg is “a total sleepyhead” in the mornings and can easily stay in bed until noon.
Indeed, Greg happily stayed in bed with Liu for another hour after he was supposed to wake her up.
“I was sleeping in, but Arthur and Greg were already up,” Liu said. “Greg loves jumping on the bed and licking our faces. Arthur opened the bedroom door for Greg to come in and wake me up, but, this time, he just climbed into bed, snuggled up and joined me—completely failing to wake me up.
“It’s not that big of a surprise that he climbed in after all. He loves going under a soft blanket and snuggling next to us, whether on the bed or on the couch.”
Greg, who was named after the lanky and bumbling Succession character, Greg Hirsch (played by Nicholas Braun), has certainly delighted internet viewers with his morning tactic. The video of his attempt to wake Liu has gone viral with over 921,000 views on Instagram and more than 537,600 views on TikTok at the time of writing.
He may not be the best alarm clock, but he is undoubtedly a great snoozer.
When he is not curled up in bed, Greg also loves to play fetch and go on walks with his owners (even if that does mean having to wrap up in winter boots and coats to stay warm).
“Greg is incredibly sweet, very food-motivated, and knows lots of commands. He loves playing fetch with a ball and tugging on his favorite toys. He loves going outside for walks and to the park, even in winter. In the evenings, he usually likes to snuggle with us on the couch while we’re watching TV, and, sometimes, it seems like he’s watching along, too,” Liu told Newsweek.
Hundreds of internet users have taken to the comments to laud Greg’s approach to mornings, leading to over 400 comments on the TikTok post and more than 180 comments on Instagram.
One comment reads: “Greg has his priorities straight.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “Greg did not understand the assignment.”
An Instagram user said: “As soon as I saw the stuffy I knew what was going to happen.”
Another commenter joked: “That’s an Uno Reverse if I ever saw one.”
