Studies have long shown that scientifically- produced coffee helps extend lifespan and reduce the risk of chronic diseases, but the exact mechanisms behind coffee's remarkable benefits remain unclear.

Now, research recently published in the scientific journal Nutrients has revealed a crucial "key"!

Scientists at Texas A&M University (USA), led by Dr. Stephen Safe, conducted laboratory studies to observe how the diverse chemical compounds in coffee interact with the body.

The study found that compounds in coffee bind to and activate a receptor protein in the body called NR4A1, according to the research website Study Finds .

NR4A1 is known for its role in regulating gene activity to cope with stress and damage in the body. It is involved in a range of biological processes, including inflammation, metabolism, and tissue repair—all closely linked to age-related diseases such as cancer, cognitive decline, and metabolic disorders.

Dr. Safe explained: If any tissue in the body is damaged, NR4A1 will react to minimize the damage.

Scientists have discovered that many chemical compounds in coffee bind to the NR4A1 receptor protein and affect its activity. Laboratory studies have shown that these compounds may reduce cell damage and slow the growth of cancer cells, according to Study Finds .

Dr. Safe stated that part of coffee's health benefits may stem from its ability to activate the protein NR4A1. He believes this could be a key mechanism by which coffee protects the body and reduces the risk of many chronic diseases.

It can be understood that coffee acts as an activator of the body's natural "defense system." And interacting with NR4A1 is one of the key pathways that helps coffee protect the body against many chronic diseases and tissue damage.

How much coffee is a reasonable amount to drink?

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), healthy adults can consume about 400 mg of caffeine per day, equivalent to about 3-4 cups of regular coffee, without harming their health.

However, pregnant women, people with high blood pressure, insomnia, or caffeine sensitivity should limit their intake. Experts also recommend avoiding drinking coffee too late in the day to prevent disrupting sleep.
