BYD Philippines has posted a teaser video of the Sealion 7 on social media with the following caption:
“Unparalleled electric performance.
From the Global Leader in EVs.
Coming soon.
Be among the first to preview the BYD Sealion 7 in the metal at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), April 9-12, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, at the World Trade Center.”
This only means one thing. The BYD Sealion 7 will soon be available on Philippine shores, and if it isn’t launched during MIAS, the launch will follow suit right after.
So what do we know about the Sealion 7? Well, first of all, it’s a pure EV and not a DM-i Plug-In Hybrid model.
Overseas models showcase multiple variants with various performance figures, the most notable being the Sealion 7 Performance with an 82.56 kWh battery, dual electric motors good for 523 hp and 690 Nm, and a zero to 100 km/h time of a scant 4.5 seconds. Range is at 456 km WLTP.
Think of the Sealion 7 as the crossover form of the Seal Performance sedan, so those waiting for a crossover with the performance levels of the Seal Performance are in luck.
There is also a lower variant that features RWD only and less power, with 308 hp and 380 Nm of torque, but features an increased range of 482 km WLTP.
As for which variant we will see at MIAS, signs point to the Performance, but we do feel there could be at least two variants once the Sealion 7 officially launches in the Philippines.
One thing is for sure: BYD now has a direct answer to the Tesla Model Y with the Sealion 7.
As for pricing, we could expect anywhere between 2.4 and 3M pesos.
